Microsoft has introduced AI-powered updates to MS Paint in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview, available to users in the Canary and Dev channels. This update adds Generative Fill, which enables users to insert AI-generated objects into images using text prompts, as well as a Generative Erase feature.
Key Features:
- Generative Fill: Similar to Adobe Photoshop’s AI functionality, users can add objects by selecting an area and typing a text prompt. If the result isn’t satisfactory, users can hit “Try Again” to regenerate until they find the desired output. Currently, this feature is available only on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs and requires sign-in with a Microsoft account.
- Generative Erase: This tool allows users to remove objects from images, seamlessly blending the erased area with the background.
- Cocreator and Image Creator Enhancements: The Cocreator tool, which uses a diffusion-based model to generate images based on sketches, has also been updated to support more creativity and stylistic variety. Image Creator is now available in additional regions.
These additions align with Microsoft’s push to integrate AI into core apps, although they are currently limited to Windows Insiders on specific hardware.
