Disney has established a new unit, the Office of Technology Enablement, to lead its efforts in artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). Spearheaded by Jamie Voris, Disney’s Chief Technology Officer, this unit aims to integrate emerging technologies across Disney’s film, TV, and theme park divisions. Eddie Drake will take over as the studio’s new CTO.
Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman emphasized the group’s importance as AI and extended reality (XR) reshape entertainment. Although the unit will not centralize projects, it will ensure they align with Disney’s broader strategy.
The Office of Technology Enablement is set to expand to around 100 employees, guiding Disney’s exploration of AR, virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality to enhance consumer experiences. The company is assembling experts in these fields, with senior Disney Imagineer Kyle Laughlin recently returning to advance these technologies for attractions and consumer engagement.
